AMBIGUITY
AMBIGUITY, 2022. 30’x 20’ Photography printed and embroidery
This piece was inspired by the city that has welcomed me for the past seven years. Miami is a watersurrounded city. On one side, the emerald water; on the other, vibrant mangroves. Ambiguity, a piece created using opposing pictures of Miami superimposed, shows the city's sustainability and resilience. Miami is a metropolis that is growing vertically every day, but it still has parks and green spaces that retain the mangrove roots that started it all, keeping its inhabitants' air pure. Brickel's Skyline buildings on strong roots that purify Miami's waterways and sky are a metaphor. A city that not only welcomes but also embraces its immigrants. Miami allows everyone to keep their cultures and finds areas for these communities to create in order to prevent their ancestors from being lost due to distance. This work is very much in keeping with my artistic journey. The advancement of my career by utilizing fiber as a raw material and drawing on my early memories, particularly with the women in my family who passed on their wisdom to me. Miami is a womanfounded metropolis with more than 70% of its residents of Latin and Hispanic descent, where you can find the most diverse cultures, folk festivals, and traditions, and where nationalities are taken seriously, becoming part of the city's hallmark.
